Like many of the reviewers, I was concerned by the apparent lack of the expiration date on the product packaging. Was I wasting hours wearing the trays with the product that may have expired ?
Well, there’s an expiration date after all, except it’s not very obvious. I dug up some info on Ultradent’s website for another product line they have on the convention they use (and I’m presuming it is consistent across their product lines).

The expiration date is indicated as “ZMMY”, where Z is a product lot letter, MM is the month and Y is the year. For example, A055 would mean an expiration date of May 2015.
So look closely on your syringe for these characters.

Also, for those who complained about the lack of instructions, well- they’re right on Ultradent’s website (a whole PDF file of instructions, in fact). ultradent.com/en-us/Product Instruction Documents/Opalescence Tooth Whitening.pdf

    In particular, it says-
“Wear Opalescence 10% for 8-10 hours
or overnight, Opalescence 15% for 4-6 hours, Opalescence
20% for 2-4 hours, and Opalescence 35% for 30 minutes.”

So keep on smiling with your (hopefully brighter) smiles !

I first got custom whitening trays about fourteen years ago – right after I had my braces removed. I have used just about every gel from several dentists. All of the gels have been far less than 35% and of course took a lot longer per treatment (usually overnight) and many more treatments than this product at 35%. And the gels cost SEVERAL times more from a dentist.

One can achieve the same results as this 35% product, but it will take much longer, and will cost much more. There is a balance between the percentage of carbamide peroxide and gum irritation, however – and it varies from person to person (the irritation, that is).

But here is what I have found. If I floss my teeth once a day and brush them two to three times a day and use a fluoride rinse “Act” at night, I can use the Opalescence 35% for one hour per treatment in custom trays.

Even after one hour, I can see clear results. If my teeth are still too “dim” I can use it every day until I get the results I want. I know (sort of) if I have over done it because my dentist will tell me my teeth are “too” white and off his colour chart. I never tell him this, but I think his teeth are dim and stained. (Sorry if that is mean.)

My tips: Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Floss once a day and use Act fluoride rinse at night and use THIS gel.

This gel is the best I have tried. It works quickly. Short treatment, few treatments. If you cannot tolerate an hour; use the recommended half hour. I don’t have sensitivity, but if you do, switch to “Sensodine” sensitive teeth toothpaste and use the Opalescence less frequently, for a shorter time or both. Also, stop doing those shots of straight Bourbon, because that compounds the irritation to your gums.

I vacillate about how often to touch up my teeth – so I asked another Amazon reviewer.

Anyway, that is what works for me and I hope this helps you. A bright smile makes an awesome first impression. And second, third…

    Cheers, Dan

When my daughter told me that Amazon had the same whitening syringes for $3.66 each… two boxes of 4, I couldn’t believe it.
So I decided to order instead of paying $15 per syringe from my dentist.
Please, get your trays made with a dentist and learn how to use the whitening syringes from your dentist FIRST!
Don’t use very much in the trays because the gel oxidizes as it whitens and if the 35% version gets on your gums, it WILL BURN!
Remove the tray and clean off the gum line and the edge of the tray and reinsert.
Don’t believe the reviews that says this is old product!
It works exactly like the syringes from my dentist and is the same company.
Remember, follow your dentist’s advice on time and use only a very thin trail in the trays.
My husband and I both use one syringe between the two of us and it’s more than enough for one treatment.
Keep the vials in the refrigerator!
